College of Education, University of Al-Mustansiriyah organized an online workshop on the reality of people with special needs in Iraq. The online workshop reviewed the variation in spatial distribution and the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of people with special needs at the level of the Iraqi Governorates, developing their psychological, scientific and functional capabilities, as well as reviewing the demographic and functional status of special needs people. The online workshop highlighted the most important rights granted by the Iraqi constitution and the international convention to people with special needs, the requirements and the needs that must be provided for them in the field of health care and psychological and physical rehabilitation, as well as reviewing ways to support and encourage them to participate in developing and building of society via providing job opportunities commensurate with their ability and capabilities. The online workshop recommended the necessity of making amendments to the current Law of Care for People with special needs to ensure that they enjoy their rights commensurate with the work to provide more care and rehabilitation services for them and understand their needs.
