College of Engineering, University of Technology discussed a master dissertation on the effect of welding heat input on the microstructure, corrosion resistance, and electrochemical properties of shielded arc-welded low-carbon steel by the postgraduate student, Mr. Ahmed Majeed Rashid.

The dissertation aimed at investigating the effect of various welding variables on the properties of low-carbon steel with the aim of improving weld quality and reducing surface and internal defects, with a focus on studying the microstructure, mechanical, and electrochemical properties.

The dissertation concluded that the base metal contains approximately 0.05% carbon, making it suitable for welding processes. The results of the chemical composition test also demonstrated that the standard specifications for low-carbon steel prepared using CNC machines were consistent.
