A master's dissertation was discussed in the College of Science, University of Thi-Qar on the antifungal, antioxidant efficacy and toxicity of some active compounds isolated from Iraqi medicinal plants by the postgraduate student, Mrs. Maysam Abdel Hassan Abdel Mohamed. The dissertation aimed at preparing the general extracts of hot aqueous, cold aqueous, hot alcohol, cold alcohol, dichloromethane, ethyl acetate and hexane. The dissertation demonstrated using of two types of Iraqi medicinal plants, Salicornia europaea and Opuntia ficus-indica to test the biological activity of their general extracts and some effective chemical compounds, as well as the synergistic effect of the mixture of plant extracts with antioxidant and antifungal activities was also studied. The dissertation confirmed that both plants under study could be a source of effective chemical compounds for use as antioxidants and treatment of pathogenic fungi. The dissertation recommended isolating other compounds families from two plants Salicornia europaea, Opuntia ficus-indica, such as alkaloids, glycosides and tannins, studying their anti-oxidant and anti-fungal effect, identifying the chemical compounds isolated from two plants Salicornia europaea and Opuntia ficus-indica by chromatography, H NMR, C13 NMR and IR, toxicological studying of a mixture of isolated compounds of each of the plants Salicornia europaea and Opuntia ficus-indica and investigating of the anti-hyperglycemic, hyperlipidic effect of extracts and active compounds isolated from both plants.
