College of Engineering, University of Diyala discussed a master dissertation on the effect of operational factors in the granulation process on the properties of zeolite granules by the postgraduate student, Ms. Shahd Qutaiba Walid.
The dissertation aimed at studying the effect of operational parameters on the granulation process using a high-shear mixer.
The dissertation included an explanation of the effect of various factors, such as the liquid-to-solid ratio, binder viscosity, mixing time, and liquid addition method, on granule properties, including size distribution, porosity, and flowability.
The dissertation emphasized the importance of achieving a balance between mixing time and liquid addition rate, as insufficient mixing leads to incomplete granulation, while excessive mixing can cause granule breakage.
The dissertation reviewed that increasing the liquid-to-solid ratio and increasing the binder viscosity improved granule formation and homogeneity. However, excessive use of binder can lead to over wetting and granule agglomeration.
