College of Agricultural Technology, Northern Technical University discussed a Master dissertation on the isolation and identification of several active compounds from locally cultivated medicinal plants and studied their antioxidant and biocontrol activity by the postgraduate student, Mr. Ahed Marwan Ahmed.
The dissertation aimed at extracting active compounds from sage flowers and leaves using a Soxhlet apparatus with different solvents, isolating the volatile oil from sage leaves, studying its components and evaluating the effectiveness of the compounds (fatty acids, phenols, alkaloids) against some plant-pathogenic bacteria.
The dissertation included the antioxidant activity of sage and sage extracts and evaluated the role of Trichoderma spp. in biocontrol and reducing reliance on pesticides.
The dissertation confirmed that sage leaves and sage flowers contain active natural compounds with antioxidant and antibacterial properties, making them promising natural alternatives to chemical pesticides and pesticides.
