College of Education for Human Sciences, University of Diyala discussed a Ph.D. thesis on the analysis of flood wave propagation in the Diyala River between the third Baqubah Bridge and Buhriz by the postgraduate student, Ms. Zainab Kamel Tayeh.

The thesis highlighted the analysis of flood wave propagation in the Diyala River between the third Baqubah Bridge and Buhriz.

The thesis demonstrated that topographical slope directly affects the speed of water flow during floods, areas with a high slope increase the likelihood of flash floods, while areas with a low slope contribute to an increase in runoff time.

The thesis concluded that floods in the Diyala River are affected by several natural and human-induced factors, the geological formation plays a major role in determining water discharge behavior, quaternary sediments are one of the dominant geological elements in the region, with medium to high permeability, allowing for some water absorption and reducing rapid surface runoff.

The thesis recommended enhancing the river's storage capacity, implementing programs to remove accumulated sediments that impede natural flow, improving urban drainage systems to prevent water from accumulating in residential areas, enforcing strict laws to limit uncontrolled construction in flood-prone areas and imposing strict engineering requirements on facilities near the river.
