Higher Education’s Awards of Science Day

During Science Day Ceremony in Al-Nahrain University on honoring the Presidents of Universities whose institutions achieved competitive scores in international rankings, His Excellency, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Nabeel Kadim Abid Al-Sahib praised the joined together efforts of the faculty members, researchers and students during the epidemic to achieve the goals of higher education in Iraq, insisting on global competition and dealing with quality mechanisms that take into considerations the requirements and accommodate the multiple and renewable needs of society at the same time. Dr. Abid Al-Sahib said that the innovators of scientists and researchers contributed in making the name of Iraq that obtained forty-fifth score globally in the dissemination of scientific researches, sixth score in the Middle East and third score in the Arab world, as well as the Iraqi universities and colleges achieved positive visible results in competition with their Arab, regional and global counterparts. His Excellency expressed the Ministry’s confidence in the universities, their staff and students in taking the responsibility of facing the current challenges and mitigating their effects so that university institutions can perform their functions in serving the community and absorbing the indicators of increasing population growth. Dr. Abid Al-Sahib called on universities to develop their international and cultural relations and activate their independency in a scientific way that would make them able to invest in the knowledge economy and adapt the scientific situation to meet the requirements of this economy and overcome the requirements of development. For their part, the Ministry’s Deputy for Scientific Research, Dr. Yassin Al-Ethawi and the Director General of the Research and Development, Dr. Ihab Naji Abbas reviewed the methods and evaluation criteria for the Iraqi Science Day awards, the number of research and the contributions made by one thousand nine hundred and thirty-eight competitors in the fields of medical, health, engineering, technology and pure sciences and agricultural, social and humane sciences. His Excellency awards the Ministry’s Deputies and the presidents of the Universities of Baghdad, Kufa, Al-Mustansiriyah, Babylon, Basrah and Technology, which achieved competitive positions in the (The Times) and (QS) rankings, as well as honoring the former Ministry’s Technical Deputy, Dr. Ghassan Hamid Abdul Majeed for his efforts in serving the Higher Education’s institution, the winners of the Iraqi Science Day awards, which amounted to their numbers are more than distributed sixty honorees for their distinguished published researches in the international scientific journals, the award for patents and intellectual property, the award for the best translated book, the award for the distinguished Iraqi scientific journal, the award for students for creative and voluntary encouragement work, the award for the outstanding students’ project and the award for the distinguished research center or unit. It is worth mentioning that the Science Day Ceremony was attended by the advanced staff of the Ministry, Universities’ Presidents and a number of guests.
