Higher Education Initiates Developing Universities’ Research Laboratories

In cooperation with the Biological Threats Reduction Program, Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced initiating of developing learning and research laboratories in a number of Iraqi universities, the Deputy of the Ministry, Dr. Ali Hamid Al-Shukri said. Dr. Al-Shukri added that the laboratory development project includes the rehabilitation of the bacteriology laboratory and the immunology laboratory at the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Baghdad and the virology laboratories at Al-Nahrain University. Dr. Al-Shukri reviewed there are three phases starting with training, rehabilitating and equipping the laboratories working in laboratories with the necessary equipment, as well as reviewing a nearby project to rehabilitate laboratories in Karbala University. Dr. Al-Shukri highlighted that the Ministry is keen on paying special attention to safety and security in the chemical and biological fields via the Ministerial Committee that has taken upon itself the development of strategies related to programs for implementing training, coordination and expanding partnership with international associations, agencies and organizations. For his part, the Adviser of the Biological Threats Reduction Program, Dr. Ali Al-Amri demonstrated the projects implemented with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the related Ministries to enhance safety and biosecurity for research laboratories. It is worth mentioning that the ceremony was attended by the presidents of the University of Baghdad , Dr. Munir Al-Saadi and University of Al-Nahrain, Dr. Ali Al-Shawi.
