Dr. Al-Aboudi Represents Iraq at IRENA Assembly, His Excellency Confirms Iraqi Government's Commitment To 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

During representing the Republic of Iraq and participating in the work of the 13th session of the General Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), which was held in the UAE capital of Abu Dhabi, January 14-15/2023, His Excellency, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Abd Yaser Al-Aboudi confirmed that Iraq is part of the international partnership space that anticipates climate indicators, reads the future of energy in this planet and addresses data that requires a transformation that is not easy in terms of global dealings with the energy horizon in general and its variables in the fields of new and renewable energy.

Dr. Al-Aboudi reviewed that the Iraqi Government is working to create innovative and sustainable solutions in order to increase the flexibility of the energy sector in improving the environmental reality, addressing the challenges of climate change and achieving a positive result within the national sustainable development plan and its goals set for 2030 in Iraq.

His Excellency added that Iraq faces challenges in energy and environment issues, which necessitated that the Iraqi Government put the diversification of energy sources in the priorities of its interest and the direction of renewable energies as an option and a new opportunity to develop the economy and the transition to a green economy to reduce the effects of climate change.

Dr. Al-Aboudi highlighted that renewable energy represents the gateway to a secure and sustainable future and future generations.

His Excellency expressed his appreciations on behalf of the Iraqi Government to the IRENA Assembly for its continuous support for Iraq through holding two workshops in Abu Dhabi and Baghdad.

Dr. Al-Aboudi calling on continuing of supporting Iraq via initiating the preparation of a report energy readiness and assistance in preparing plans and mechanisms for the development of human resources working in the renewable energies sector via building their capabilities and providing them with theoretical and applied skills and knowledge according to international training programs.

It is worth mentioning that the work of IRENA Assembly, whose membership includes 168 countries, witnessed the participation of more than ninety Ministers and more than 1,800 participants distributed among leaders, government’s officials and representatives of international and private organizations and associations.
