A joint research team in Al-Mustansiriyah and Baghdad Universities conducted a joint study on the efficacy of the Genex PERT molecular method and the traditional test in the rapid diagnosis of TB bacteria associated with lung cancer. The online study reviewed the effectiveness of both the molecular Genex method and the traditional staining method of samples in diagnosing rifampicin-resistant pulmonary tuberculosis bacteria, as well as highlighting the relation between the bacteria and lung cancer. The online study also reviewed that there are many scientific evidence confirming an increased risk of lung cancer in TB patients, early detection of the gene mutations (rpoB) associated with bacterial resistance to rifampicin (RIF) and enabling doctors to make critical decisions about treatment. It is worth mentioning that the joint research team was the faculty members in Al-Mustansiriyah University, Dr. Suhad Faisal Hatim and Ahmed Essam Salman and the faculty member in Baghdad University, Mr. Faris Ali Muhammad.
