During a participation in the 2nd Online Islamic Summit for Science and Technology entitled (Science, Technology and Innovation: Opening New Horizons), which was organized by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation that was chaired by the United Arab Emirates with the participation of Presidents of World States and Governments, relevant Ministers and representatives of international organizations, His Excellency, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Nabeel Kadim Abid Al-Sahib said that the rapid progressing of technology and the wide digital gap divide requires everyone to adopt new methods in the field of education, conducting a review of the level of priorities and drawing a line of initiation for arranging, formulating and amending policies responsible for supporting research and development fields, stimulating meaningful scientific publishing and providing an appropriate environment for innovation and patent registration. Dr. Abid Al-Sahib added that Iraq’s keenness on committing to the principles and objectives stipulated in the Charter of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and its Science, Technology and Innovation Program, which extends until the 2026, in a way that contributes to develop sustainable development, achieve a sustainable knowledge economy through scientific investments, modernize educational curricula, incubate and nurture youth and stimulate their potential towards innovation. His Excellency reviewed that the Republic of Iraq’s important scientific capabilities are represented by its scientists and researchers in various fields, who were distributed in more than a hundred public and private universities and more than fifty-eight centers for advanced research which looking forward to bridge the scientific relation and strengthen the partnership with scientific and technological institutions. Dr. Abid Al-Sahib called on adopting a comprehensive roadmap for technology transferring among the member states, cooperating with the General Secretariat and international partners and developing of academic and research cooperation mechanisms between educational institutions via exchanging of faculty members and researchers, providing scholarships for students and organizing of a ministerial-level forum for energy that adores ways of interoperability of energy and energy technology, renewable energy and developing a digital map commensurate with the fourth industrial revolution and smart systems. His Excellency concluded his speech by saying that “The time has come for Islamic countries to work to absorb the rapid growth of knowledge, build an integrated system for scientific research, create centers for technology transfer and localization, build an electronic portal for research cooperation in various sciences and patents, benefit from the scientific energies of Islamic countries, facilitate the movement of researchers and their reception in research centers and universities and establish of a fund to finance research with high scientific returns. It is worth mentioning that at the end of the conference, the representatives of the countries voted on the joint statement of the summit, which emphasized taking all necessary procedures to create and activate a conducive environment to achieve progress in the field of science, technology and innovation in the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
