A joint research team from the University of Al-Mustansiriyah and the Ministry of Health and Environment conducted a joint study on the effectiveness of radiosurgery with a Gamma knife for arteriovenous malformations. The study aimed at evaluating the efficiency of Gamma Knife Radiosurgery (GKRS) in treating arteriovenous malformation, as well as predicting complications that it may occur up to 12 months after surgery. The joint study concluded that a significant shrinkage in the size of the malformations, especially in patients whose size is less than 3 cm3 with a probability value of less than (00001), which confirms the effectiveness of Gamma Knife Radiosurgery in treating arteriovenous malformations. It is worth mentioning that the joint research team was the faculty member in Al-Mustansiriyah University, Dr. Iman Abdul-Ghafour Shaker and the consultant physicians in the Neuroscience Hospital, Dr. Ahmed Abdul Salam and Dr. Ahmed Adnan.
